It seems likely that the theory of uniqueness was based on incomplete information and understanding. The possibility that symbolic thought began well before 40,000 years ago doesn't sound that far fetched. I read this to understand that the authors were saying this might suggest symbolic thought, not that the shell markings were conclusive proof.

I thought the intelligence the this species was very close to the link between animal & a "human" & by human i mean cultural not just surviving like having luxury things at the point or entertainment & maybe they used this to leave messages for others of its kind ^.^

i thought this article was very interesting. It talked about the worlds oldest homo sapiens and 40,000 years ago Europeans carved art and jewelry. Also 300,000 years ago the behaviors might have originated.

I thought this article was very interesting, telling about an engraved shell from a homo erectus at least 300,00 years old. This is interesting because it may have a connection to a human like ancestor back in that time.

I never thought that their were earlier species before us homo sapiens. In fact, I never knew that it was possible to write cravings on a shell. Scientists are trying so hard to find out what earlier homo sapiens were around before the hominids or humans.

I thought this article was really interesting because if the shell was in the sea then how could there be writing on it? And it was 300,000 years old!!

I thought that it was interesting that the people who calculated the amount of homo sapiens to be 40,000 and that as the years went on the numbers got bigger and bigger. lastly i thought that it was interesting that this happened nearly 430,000 to 540,000 years ago.

I thought the article was very interesting because I've learned that they are trying to figure out deeper and deeper about what distinguished homo sapiens from other members of the human family.

This article was pretty cool. To think that someone carved something into a shell over 300,000 years ago. That helped us find more evidence about homo sapiens.

I found this article very interesting because i never knew that we had a Mussel shell fossil that was engraved by Homo erectus between 540,000 and 430,000 years ago. Also the find is at least 300,000 years older than the oldest previously known engravings, which came from South Africa.

this article was cool to think that a homo sepian carved something into a mussel shell more than 300,000 years ago. i find that quite crazy that we are now able to recover that and take evidence from it.

I think that it is interesting because of the cave art and jewelry they saw from 40,000. It is also interesting on how they figured out were our species started in east africa

I think that it is very cool how far we have come in science and all the things we have learned about our ancestors.I am sure that in the future more and more things will be found that will further our study of homo sapiens and older ancestors

I found this article interesting, I learned many new things like how they found jewelry, this makes me wonder how closely related hominids are to humans and how we evolved from them!
